Pyramid Awards, Edinburgh

The Pyramids competition was a great evening, with grace and beauty, and amazing dancing skills on display.  Sadly, my camera gear wasn’t quite up to the job…

I arrived at the Minto Hotel, Edinburgh, to photograph the Pyramids belly dance competition.  The hall where the competition was being held was beautifully set up, the tickets had sold out and this was going to be a great event.  The atmosphere was excited as the dancers started, whereupon I realised that I was in trouble.  My 24-105mm has got a broken filter jammed on to it (I have no idea how I’m going to remove it) and my nifty fifty focused much too slowly to deal with fast-moving dancers.

After the first couple of dances I gave up, disappointed.  There were other photographers present who, I am sure, will have done a great job.  I needed to go home and lick my wounds, and get my equipment sorted out.

I suppose it was a good lesson – make sure you have got your gear properly organised well in advance.

Here are a few shots I did manage of this wonderful evening.
